M-247 Sgt York – Academy 1/35

Bought this from Miniature Hobby at Marina Square, spur of the moment buy. Liked the unique shape of this A-A tank.
Found out later that this is a copy of the now out-of-production Tamiya kit. Academy didn’t even have proper colour instructions.

Buildup is fairly good, except for :
- Sprockets were for the motorised version, had to cut quite a bit of plastic to get the sprockets to align with the other wheels.
- Vinyl tracks have lots of flash, and didn’t respond to superglue or UHU glue. Resorted to stapling them together.
- Since the tracks cannot be glued to the wheels, I jammed short lengths of sprue under the fenders to make the tracks sag between each return roller.
Also used fishing line to tie the track to 2 road wheels on the bottom.

Will probably put this aside, since this is for the Plamo+M Workshop post-WWII armour group build due in July.
Then start on the 1/72 Fujimi F-14D for M Workshop group build 005 – Tomcat tribute.

Almost done

Good afternoon,
I represent the Sgt. York Patriotic Foundation located in Pall Mall, TN. I ran across this blog while doing research for the website http://www.sgtyork.org. I have a strange proposition for you. We currently do not have a model of the M247 that would remotely approach the fantastic detail that you have put into yours. Would you be willing to put your model on loan to the Foundation until such a time when you would like it returned. We would of course keep it in an enclosed glass case and would mount a plaque with your information. For your assistance we would of course give you an honorary membership in the Foundation. Think it over and let me know something as time permits. You can email me at sypf@sgtyork.org.
Sincerely,
Ruble

Excellent work! I am in the process (eh, for the last couple of years…bit of a slacker
) of building one of the Tamiya kits, and almost finished. Nowhere near the detail that you have done. This will be my first attempt at any type of Tank model.
